William Christie & Les Arts Florissants: Rameau

About the Event

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the death of Jean‐Philippe Rameau (1683‐1764), Les Arts Florissants revive two works composed for the Fontainebleau court’s amusement: the heroic pastorale Daphnis et Églé, written to entertain the court’s hunting parties, and the ballet La Naissance d’Osiris (The Birth of Osiris), which celebrated the birth of the future king Louis XVI in 1754.

These bucolic sung and danced works for farmers, shepherds, great priests and gods celebrate the triumph of love.
