Strauss, Mahler, Berg: Tonkünstler

About the Event

The Tonkünstler perform works by Richard Strauss, Alban Berg, and Gustav Mahler under the baton of Patrick Lange.

In his final opera, "Capriccio", Richard Strauss examined the question of whether music was more important than words or vice versa. With the overture to this masterly "play within a play" the Tonkünstler open a "voluble" concert that also features the Swedish soprano Malin Hartelius performing the outstanding and technically challenging "Sieben frühe Lieder" by Alban Berg. In the second part, Patrick Lange, the young rising star on the German music scene, will conduct the First Symphony by Gustav Mahler. The work is full of references to poems from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn", which is proof of the tight connection between words and music.
