The principal conductors of the venerable Philadelphia Orchestra have included such great names as Stokowski, Muti and Sawallisch. But according to an enthusiastic New York Times, the orchestra, renowned for its ardent string sound and the homogenous opulence of its tone, has 'never sounded better' than under its current music director, Yannick Nézet‐Séguin.
