About the Event

Enjoy the recent product of Venezuela's remarkable public music education program: The Youth Orchestra of Caracas (YOC). Nicknamed “El Sistema” (“The System”), the State Foundation for a National Youth Orchestra System allows 350,000 children – 90% of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds – to attend music schools across the country. A product of this program, the YOC has already performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues.

Revel in works such as Sensemayá by the Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas, which rivals The Rite of Spring in rhythmic dynamism. Venezuelan double bass soloist Edicson Ruiz, who began his studies in El Sistema and, at 17, became the youngest member of the Berlin Philharmonic, will present the French premiere of Rolf Martinsson's concerto.
