About the Event

The French Youth Orchestra, founded in 1982 by the Ministry of Culture, offers a program of colorful and exciting works.

Beginning with the technically demanding, mesmerizing Chairman Dances, the orchestra will continue with Martinu’s homage to the Czech village of Lidice, which was destroyed in June of 1942 by the Nazis. The musical language in this poignant funeral music evokes a neoclassical lyricism similar to that of the slow movement of Stravinsky’s Concerto for piano and winds.
