Mozart & Mendelssohn: Pinchas Zukerman & Budapest Festival Orchestra

About the Event

Ivan Fischer conducts the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Pinchas Zukerman (violin), Anna Lucia Richter (soprano), and Barbara Kozelj (mezzo‐soprano), in a performance of music by Mozart and Mendelssohn.

The first part of the concert is dedicated to Mozart. He wrote The Magic Flute in 1791, shortly before his death, and he himself conducted it at its premiere at the Theater auf der Wieden. The young Mozart, at the age of 19, wrote five violin concertos in a single year, in 1775. The most popular of these is probably the one in A major, now on the program, which has received the sobriquet “Turkish”, because contemporaries felt one of its episodes was oriental in mood.
