Matthias Goerne & Christoph Eschenbach: Salle Pleyel

About the Event

After his fruitful collaboration performing Schubert with Christoph Eschenbach, German baritone Matthias Goerne joins the director and pianist once again to perform three key works by Schumann, composed in 1840.

The German singer is becoming recognized as a successor of the great Fischer‐Dieskau. Accompanied by one of the most sensitive pianists, Matthias Goerne presents a program of works composed in 1840: a tribute to the most passionate of all romantics.

An absolute jewel of the Lieder repertoire, the Dichterliebe is based on poetry by Heine, presenting a bitter lyricism. Its feminine counterpart, Frauenliebe und Leben, explores complex emotions towards a loved one from birth through to disappearance.
