Goyescas & Gianni Schicchi: Teatro Real in Madrid
About the Event
Enjoy an extraordinary evening in Madrid's opera house. After conducting soprano María Bayo in Enrique Granados’ only opera, Goyescas, Plácido Domingo performs the leading role in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, staged with sharp and biting humour by Woody Allen.
The rarely‐performed Goyescas come from Granados' orchestral suite of the same name which pays tribute to Goya’s working‐class Madrid of the 19th century.
Considered the last great masterpiece of Italian comic opera Gianni Schicchi, the third piece in Il trittico, was inspired by an episode of Dante’s Divine Comedy. It soon emerged as an audience favourite, with a musical language that proved to be the most audacious and modern of Puccini's trilogy.
