Richard Strauss described his tone‐poem as being written "freely after Nietzsche", but you don't need to be a philosopher to appreciate the mastery of orchestral writing displayed in this work, that lives somewhat in the shadow of its opening, heard around the world in Kubrick's film.

François‐Xavier Roth conducts the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest in the Strauss and a new tone poem by Bruno Mantovani, Schlemihl, written with Strauss in mind.

Roth and the orchestra are joined by Alexander Gavrylyuk for Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, a staple for any concert pianist: a spirited and lyrical work.
