Berio's Sinfonia: The Beginning of a Tradition

About the Event

Witness the birth of postmodernism – Berio's 1968 work broke free from the shackles of post‐war music.

Sinfonia, for 8 amplified voices and orchestra, started off in a new direction for post‐war music. The modernists had been rejecting tradition and now here came a piece full of quotations. This new way of dealing with the past of classical music became "postmodernism".

This matinée concert also features a new piano concerto by Piet‐Jan van Rossum – a young woman came up to me – performed by Ralph van Raat, and Charles Ives' Orchestral Set. No. 2.
