Baroque Concerti Grossi: Concertgebouw

About the Event

Handel, Corelli and Steffani from I Barocchisti and their conductor Diego Fasolis.

In 1739, the London winter was so harsh that it was possible to roast an ox on the River Thames. All the theatres were closed, which meant that composers like Handel, who relied on ticket sales for their operas, had to find another outlet. It was during this time his wrote his Concerti Grossi op. 6, borrowing a popular Italian form.

The Early Music experts I Barocchisti perform all the Opus 6 Concerti Grossi by Handel, as well the famous "Christmas" Concerto by Corelli, a strong influence. They round off their programme with dances from operas by the Italian composer Steffani.
