Young Euro Classic: Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa (Portugal)

About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Haydn, Bruckner and Domingues at Berlin's treasured and world‐renowned Konzerthaus Berlin.

Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa (JOP), Portugal's national youth orchestra, has long been a household name at the Young Euro Classic. This is not only due to the quality of the young musicians from Europe's westernmost state, but also to the well‐considered programmes that conductor Pedro Carneiro always chooses for his orchestra. This summer's common theme is 'Beginning — Creation — Evolution — End'. Musically, this means that the Portuguese will begin the concert with a pompous prelude to Haydn's oratorio Creation, describing the chaos that preceded God's creation. This will be followed by a brand new work by 22‐year‐old Marta Domingues, which references this original work and features soloists from the young people of the JOP social project Orquestra dos Navegadores. The orchestra will then pay a great homage to Anton Bruckner's Ninth Symphony, his last, unfinished work, which is his musical testament. This concert is certainly not short of musical pleasure, but it also offers plenty of food for thought!
