Young Euro Classic: Chineke! Junior Orchestra

About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Tchaikovsky, Coleridge‐Taylor and Goodyear at Berlin's treasured and world‐renowned Konzerthaus.

Since 2015, the British foundation Chineke! has been supporting black artists in classical music and creating opportunities for musically talented people of colour, who often prove to be career‐defining stepping stones into the world of classical music. Chineke! Junior Orchestra's concert programme also reflects its mission to bring more diversity to the concert scene. It begins with Samuel Coleridge‐Taylor, a London composer from Sierra Leone who set an outstanding example of musical integration over 100 years ago. Soloist Gerard Aimontche plays Stewart Goodyear's Piano Concerto, which the Canadian composed for his own virtuoso fingers in 2016. And after the break, there are big romantic sentiments — with Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, which is no worse than the more popular duo of the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies. Glass Marcano is another exciting artist on the podium: not only did the Venezuelan win the orchestral prize at the 2019 'La Maestra' conducting competition. He was also an absolute favourite with the audience. They make the ears!
