About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Haydn, Dvořák and Kodály at Berlin's treasured and world‐renowned Konzerthaus.

This year, the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic presents itself for the first time at Young Euro Classic — a debut that arouses high expectations, since the young musicians are coached exclusively by members of the tradition‐rich orchestra. And the programme also sounds like a bow to the old Habsburg monarchy, in which so many nationalities and musical styles met. The programme begins with a work from Hungary, the Dances from Galánta, in which Zoltán Kodály created a colourful musical memorial to his childhood memories of a famous folk band. This is followed as a 'classic' by the lively Sinfonia concertante for four soloists and orchestra, which Joseph Haydn treated London's ears to in 1792. Antonín Dvořák's Eighth Symphony, on the other hand, draws entirely on the rich melodies of his Bohemian homeland, which the composer has combined into a sparkling jewel — a more than rewarding task for any youth orchestra!
