About the Event

Gustav Mahler's symphonies are known for their festive nature. However, this particular concert offers a unique experience by showcasing Mahler's most elegant orchestral songs and a symphony that presents the world from a child's perspective. To fully appreciate this symphony, it is recommended to listen to it in reverse order. In the final movement, which is sung, all the musical motifs and images from the previous three movements are explained. For instance, the delicate sound of little bells representing lambs is heard at the beginning, followed by Father Death playing the violin in the second movement, and finally, in the third movement, the beautiful and celestial sounds of the heavenly Jerusalem. It should also be noted that Joyce DiDonato's exceptional singing elevates the overall performance. Her ability to seamlessly transition between fragile and childlike tones demonstrates her immense range and mastery of tonal colors.
