About the Event
The Willem Brons Presents series showcases the next generation of pianists to the public. This event features three talented former participants of Brons' annual international master class. On Sunday afternoon, these pianists will perform a full recital in De Waalse Kerk, and Brons will personally introduce them and their repertoire. As part of the series, Satomi Chihara will be presented in the second concert.
Satomi Chihara, born in 1996, achieved remarkable success at the 58th Beethoven's Hradec International Competition in 2022. She won third prize and the Bärenreiter Praha Prize. During the competition, Chihara had the opportunity to perform Beethoven's fifth piano concerto with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, among other notable achievements. In May 2022, she made her debut in the Small Hall of the Concertgebouw.
Chihara is a rising star in the Netherlands, considered one of the country's most promising young piano talents. She was the last student of Willem Brons and earned her Bachelor of Classical Piano from the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2018. Her outstanding exam performance that year earned her the distinction of having the best result in her department. This achievement granted her a scholarship from the Jacques Vonk Fund, which is specifically awarded to exceptionally talented graduates. In 2020, Chihara completed her studies at the conservatory, earning her Master's degree under the guidance of Naum Grubert.
Not only has Chihara garnered recognition in Japan with multiple awards, but she has also been acknowledged in the Netherlands. She was a laureate of the Young Pianist's Foundation in 2015 and the Princess Christina Competition in 2016. Even while still a student, Chihara was invited to perform in numerous concerts throughout the Netherlands. She has also participated in prestigious events such as the International Holland Music Sessions in 2017, Willem Brons' acclaimed International Masterclass in Amsterdam from 2018 to 2022, and the Naarden International Piano Festival in 2021.
Join us in experiencing Satomi Chihara's exceptional talent as she takes the stage in this captivating concert, presented by Willem Brons.
