About the Event

Maki Ishii's mesmerizing work "Mono‐Prism" is not only known for its gripping dynamic and sound nuances, but also for its visually stunning performance. The rhythmic drumbeats from the ensemble, led by renowned taiko artist Eitetsu Hayashi, seamlessly blend with the vibrant color palette of a Western symphony orchestra. This unique fusion of Eastern traditional music and Western classical music creates an exhilarating synthesis for the audience. Conductor Kiyotaka Teraoka and the Waseda Symphony Orchestra perfectly round off their concert program, which spans across American, Asian, and European compositions. Richard Strauss' tone poems "Don Juan" and "Death and Transfiguration" as well as Erich Korngold's Violin Concerto, featuring the remarkable soloist Alina Pogostkina, complete the lineup. Alina Pogostkina, known for her emotionally charged performances, has made guest appearances with major orchestras and festivals worldwide. Her versatility is showcased in a repertoire that spans from baroque and classical masterpieces to modern compositions. In Korngold's concerto, Pogostkina flawlessly handles the incredibly demanding technical passages while also conveying a sense of lightheartedness and humor in response to the intricacies and absurdities of the world.
