Vogler, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Wellber: Beethoven, Sheperd at Kulturpalast

About the Event

It was Arturo Toscanini himself who founded the Filarmonica which bears his name today, laying the foundation for one of Italy’s most renowned orchestras. The legendary conductor, who was friends with the conductor of the Sächsische Staatskapelle, Fritz Busch, occasionally visited Dresden. All the more befitting that »his« orchestra should now visit the banks of the River Elbe. In addition to the overtures to Verdi’s »Macbeth« and Wagner’s »Lohengrin«, richly varied creations by Schnittke and Tchaikovsky will be heard. The soloist in Schnittke’s Cello Concerto, famed for its fragile sonic textures, is Jan Vogler. About his last symphony, that in B‐minor, which completes this intriguing concert evening, Tchaikovsky said: »I am very proud of my symphony, and think that it’s my best composition.«
