About the Event
Hear Vivaldi's wonderful masterpiece and other compositions by this great master of classical music in the unique atmosphere of the Caravita Church in the heart of Rome.
The Oratorio dei Caravita is a 17th century Baroque oratory located in Rome. It was built between 1631 and 1633, thanks to the financial support of noble families living in the neighbourhood near the Pantheon, and the influence of the Jesuit Pietro Gravita. The location is home to the Caravita Community, a Catholic community focused on an international anglophone congregation. The Oratory has always welcomed people from different faiths, including prominent diplomatic and religious leaders, as well as those without any religious affiliation or faith.
Musical performances are considered essential in the community, consequently the Oratory hosts many concerts featuring an international array of musicans. The magnificent Priori organ is not the building's only claim to musical fame — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed on an earlier organ in the Oratory in 1770, and remains one of the community's favourite composers.
The Four Seasons is a group of four violin concerti composed by Italian melodist Antonio Vivaldi in 1721. In specific, each group represents the musical expression of a season of the year. In fact, the music is evocative of natural sounds of the countryside of Mantua. In general, each concerto consists of three movements and each sonnet of three sections.
