Viennese Advent — Advent Concert by the Wiener Symphoniker at St. Stephen's Cathedral

About the Event

You can't get more Advent spirit, more Vienna and more contemplation than this when the Vienna Symphony Orchestra once again moves to the spectacular ambience of Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral for its grand Advent concert on December 7.

The program, led by the orchestra's first guest conductor, Marie Jacquot, travels temporally from Michael Praetorius ('Es ist ein Ros entsprungen') to Andrew Lloyd Webber ('Pie Jesu') and geographically from Leopold Mozart's Austria to Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Russia ('Nutcracker' and 'Snowflake Waltz'), on to Albert Malotte's United States and Adolphe Adam's France ('Cantique de Noël').

Soprano Fatma Said, tenor Jonathan Tetelman and the Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde will take you on a journey into musical Christmas traditions from around the world. Of course, the program also includes the great Christmas classics such as Bach's 'Jesus bleibet meine Freude,' the 'Ave Maria' by William Gomez, and — for a joint finale — the carol 'O du fröhliche.'
