Vienna Boys' Choir: Christmas concert — O Du Fröhliche

About the Event

With their perfect, crystal clear voices, the famous Vienna Boys' Choir captivate audiences everywhere.
In their Christmas concert 'O Du Fröhliche' they present Advent and Christmas carols as well as classical works.

The Vienna Boys' Choir is the oldest boys' choir in the world that does not belong to a church. They are an institution in the history of music and look back on a tradition of more than 500 years. From the very beginning, they have served as musical ambassadors: As early as the 15th century, the first choirboys accompanied Emperor Maximilian I on imperial days. After the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy, a non‐profit association took over the sponsorship of the choir and promoted the touring activities that continue to this day.

As stars of film and recordings with Leonard Bernstein, José Carreras, Placido Domingo or Zubin Mehta, among others, and as a guest choir of the Vienna State Opera, the 10‐ to 14‐year‐old boys before their voices break are among the few ensembles whose fame spans the globe.

The choir has received numerous prizes and awards time and again. The choir has received the coveted Grammy — the 'music Oscar' — twice.
