To New Shores: Symphony Concert with Holly Hyun Choe and Marianna Bednarska at Komische Oper Berlin

About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Beethoven, Rautavaara and Mayer at Berlin's treasured and world‐renowned Komische Oper Berlin.

Two up‐and‐coming female artists can be experienced at the start of the new concert season — a start with three very different works, each of which promises a 'new shore': on the programme is the Faust Overture by Emilie Mayer, worthy of an opera house in its drama. The composer was celebrated as the 'female Beethoven' during her lifetime and shares the fate with a whole series of top‐class female artists, not only of the 19th century — she was almost unjustly forgotten. After the unknown, the unexpected: the Incantations by Einojuhani Rautavaara emphasise the songfulness of the percussion and thus show completely new facets of percussion in the swinging work of the Finnish composer. Finally, after the 'female' Beethoven, the 'male' Beethoven: his 7th Symphony is considered his most stirring work. Condemned as a testimony to his madness, Richard Wagner celebrated it as the 'apotheosis of dance'.
