Thomas Campion – Author of Poetry and Song („The Third and Fourth Book of Ayres“) with special guest Dame Emma Kirkby
Munich, Residenz München — Max‐Joseph‐Saal
About the Event
Joel Frederiksen has expressed his deep admiration for the English poet‐composer Thomas Campion (1567‐1620) many times in concerts. For him, Campion is the ideal figure of an educated 'Renaissance Man.' With the performance of 'The Third and Fourth Book of Ayres' (London ca. 1617) Frederiksen concludes the complete works of lute songs by Thomas Campion.
Thomas Campion dedicated his fourth 'Book of Ayres' to John Mounson, the son of his long‐time friend and patron. A few years before the publication of this fourth and last book, perhaps the most exciting episode of his life occurred when Campion, together with that patron Thomas Mounson, was accused of the murder of the poet Sir Thomas Overbury. In the end he was acquitted.
