Steven Isserlis and Olli Mustonen have enjoyed a musical friendship for many years. Their chamber music encounter promises a very special event – not only because of the easy familiarity their concerts have the programme the two renowned artists bring to Dresden is also extraordinary. Kabalevsky’s Cello Sonata Op. 71 was given its world premiere in Moscow in 1962 by Mstislav Rostropovich the Sonata for the same instruments by Olli Mustonen was composed in 2006. Prokofiev’s Ballad in C‐minor Op. 15 of 1912 goes back to the composer’s earliest attempts at composition. And the finale is Shostakovich’s first large‐scale chamber music work, the popular Sonata for Cello and Piano Op. 40 first performed in 1934.
