    INFO & TICKETS

I Musici Veneziani: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons The Scuola Grande di San Teodoro is one of eight "Scuole Grande" in Venice. It was founded in 1258 when the confraternity settled in the San Salvador church, obtaining, as the other Scuole, the permit to use a lateral nave and some rooms of the monastery.

The Scuola Grande di San Teodoro has always had many followers. In 1551 it moved to a building in front of the church San Salvador. After one year, the appellative name "Grande" was granted to the Scuola.

At the beginning of the 17. century the internal stairs were built and in 1655 Giuseppe Sardi was hired to build the marble facade. In the 19. century the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro was robbed of its best works, but the building remained unaltered. In 1960 San Teodoro was reconstructed and today it is used as a venue for cultural events.

Virtuosi di Venezia: Vivaldi and Opera The church Ateneo di San Basso was built in the year 1076 in honour of the Saint Basso and is therefore, according to the historian Flaminio Corner, one of the oldest churches of Venice. After the fires of 1105 and 1661 the church was reconstructed. The simple and classical elegance of today is possibly  owed to Balsassarre Longhena, who was factor of the Basilica di San Marco at that time.

In 1806 the church was robbed of its altars and its decoration. Afterwards the Ateneo di San Basso was sold to a private owner and redeemed later by the Patriot Jacopo Monico, who handed the church over to the Fabbriceria di San Marco on 28 December 1847. For a century, the church was used by the Fabbriceria as a marble and sculpture camp as well as technical office. In the 1950's the building was reconstructed and furnished as a conference hall. On 25 March 1953, the Ateneo di San Basso was inaugurated by Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, the later Pope Johannes XXIII.
