The Budapest Festival Orchestra plays a vital role in the Budapest music scene and is one of the top symphony orchestras in the world. The orchestra was founded in 1983 by Iván Fischer and Zoltán Kocsis, with musicians 'drawn from the cream of Hungary's younger players' (The Times). The opera productions of the Budapest Festival Orchestra are internationally acclaimed, and the orchestra has organized the annual Budapest Mahler Festival since 2005.
