Rudolf Buchbinder, Festival Strings Lucerne at Philharmonie Berlin

About the Event

Renowned interpreter Rudolf Buchbinder will grace the Philharmonie with an evening of three piano concertos, offering audiences a glimpse into the "Mozart" cosmos. With a no‐frills, alert rationality and intuitive musicality, Buchbinder examines the composer and his work, enriched with supreme virtuosity. Describing Mozart's Piano Concerto in D minor as a "declaration of love in tones," Buchbinder's interpretation brings forth the emotional depth of the second movement. Similarly, the joyful and melodic Piano Concerto in C major showcases the symphonic concertos where the orchestral part carries significant weight. In Mozart's Concerto in B flat major, his last and most mature work in this genre, the melancholic essence, floating meter, and lyrical themes hint at the emerging Romanticism. Buchbinder himself will conduct the piano concerto triptych, accompanied by the Festival Strings Lucerne. Reflecting on his extensive experience, Buchbinder exclaims, "Conducting from the piano is an enlarged form of chamber music." Expect a truly exceptional listening experience as Buchbinder's stylistic elegance and luminous clarity breathe life into Mozart's creations.
