Puccini's Gianni Schicchi & Il Tabarro: Oslo Opera House

About the Event

Whilst Il Tabarro (The Cloak) is a compact thriller, Gianni Schicchi is a comedy about death. Experience both – with intense musical voices and beautiful arias, including “O mio babbino caro” – in one evening!

On a barge on the Seine, Giorgetta yearns for a better life. How does her older husband react when he discovers that she has begun a relationship with one of his young crew‐members?

One man's loss is another man's gain! An old man sits in his wheelchair, at a decked out table, with his family around him. As he draws his last breath over a glass of wine, the gun goes off for what will be a wild search for the old man’s money. His will is to be found in the “fat monks’ hands” — but maybe the schemer Gianni Schicchi can strike whilst the iron is still hot.

Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi are two of the one act operas which form Puccini’s trilogy Il Trittico, which premièred at the Metropolitan opera in 1819. You can experience the third piece, Sour Angelica in spring 2019. All three are produced by director, set and costume designer Isabella Bywater.
