Orquesta Joven de Andalucía: Easter Concert at Seville Opera House

About the Event

Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Seville's breathtaking Teatro de la Maestranza for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of classical music.

The Youth Orchestra of Andalusia (OJA) is back on the stage of the Teatro de la Maestranza, after celebrating a great success last season with the demanding Symphony No. 7 by Anton Bruckner. This time, too, there is a program that will test the maturity and solidity of any symphony orchestra. Under the direction of Álvaro Albiach (Valencia, 1968), a conductor known for his international experience in opera — Teatro Real (Madrid), Liceu (Barcelona), Festival Rossini Pesaro (Italy) — the OJA is dedicated to Gustav Mahler's Lied der Erde, an orchestral song cycle composed in 1907 but not heard until after the composer's death in 1911.

The sixth song and final section, Der Abschied, is one of the most heartbreaking, melancholy and agonizing pieces in music history. Also on the program is the world premiere of a work for solo saxophone by Daahoud Salim, a brilliant young pianist and jazz composer who trained in Seville and is the son of the great saxophonist Abdu Salim.
