Orpheus in the Underworld: Komische Oper Berlin

About the Event

Experience classical music like never before in this astonishing performance of Offenbach's masterwork at Berlin's remarkable Komische Oper Berlin.

Jacques Offenbach
Opéra‐buffon in two acts and four pictures [1858/1874].
Libretto by Hector Crémieux and Ludovic Halévy

Co‐production with the Salzburg Festival and the
the Deutsche Oper am Rhein

Shameless, funny and frivolous! In Barrie Kosky's frenetically acclaimed production at the 2019 Salzburg Festival — the first Offenbach operetta ever in the almost 100‐year history of the festival — plump travesties of myth meet a top‐class ensemble with a joy of playing. Led by the inimitable Max Hopp as John Styx, who lends his speaking voice to every character on stage, Sydney Mancasola as Eurydice, Wolfgang Ablinger‐Sperrhacke as Pluto and Peter Bording as Jupiter, among others, dive into a brightly coloured, tomboyish, hellish underworld.
