Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano: Mahler Festival #5
Milan, Auditorium Fondazione Cariplo — Main Hall
About the Event
Experience classical music in a whole new way with this breathtaking performance of masterworks by Gustav Mahler at Milan's extraordinary Auditorium Fondazione Cariplo.
This concert features a sister work to Mahler's Second Symphony, not only in terms of its references to the poetic world of the Wunderhorn, but especially in its enormous scale and profound extramusical meanings. With the Third Symphony, Mahler aimed to outline a grand cosmogony, a magnificent "musical poem embracing all stages of development in progressive order." This masterpiece takes us on a journey from inanimate nature to plant life, animal life, human beings, and all the way up to the celestial realms of angels and God's love.
Although Mahler eventually removed all captions when publishing the work, the inner program remained a vital source of inspiration for his creative imagination.
