About the Event

Marc Minkowski, a renowned French conductor and founder of the Early‐Music specialist ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre, joins the Dresdner Festspielorchester, cementing their reputation as one of the leading orchestras of our time. Known as a pioneer of historically informed performance practice, Minkowski brings a wealth of expertise to the stage. The first half of the concert presents a captivating juxtaposition between the works of Offenbach and Wagner, two composers whose styles were often at odds with each other. The forgotten opera "Die Rheinnixen" by Offenbach is followed by Wagner's emotionally charged "Wesendonck‐Lieder," revealing the composer's deep passion for Mathilde Wesendonck. Norwegian mezzo‐soprano Astrid Nordstad, winner of the prestigious Tom Wilhelmsen Opera Prize in 2022, proves to be the perfect choice to interpret these intricate soundscapes. The evening culminates with Mendelssohn's beloved Third Symphony, inspired by the composer's journey to Scotland.

Program

  • Jacques Offenbach – Excerpts from the Opera »Die Rheinnixen«
  • Richard Wagner – Wesendonck‐Lieder, WWV 91
