noisenight45: lodestar trio at The Jago Dalston

About the Event

Erik Rydvall and Olav Mjelva, Scandinavian folk musicians, will be joining British violin virtuoso Max Baillie in Dalston for a unique interpretation of Baroque music. The performance will take place at The Jago, a renowned arts and culture venue located in the renovated buildings of the Hackney Gazette printing press. The Jago is known for its eclectic program of music, art, workshops, and community work, which reflects the diverse cultures of the local Dalston community. Additionally, the venue holds a special significance to the musicians as it is conveniently located near their through the noise HQ.

Lodestar Trio, the collaboration between Erik Rydvall, Olav Mjelva, and Max Baillie, brings a fresh perspective to Baroque music by infusing elements of groove and improvisation. They achieve this by combining traditional Nordic string instruments such as the Swedish nyckelharpa and the Norwegian hardanger fiddle with the violin. In their performances, Lodestar Trio offers uniquely re‐imagined versions of pieces from the Bach cello suites, Bach sonatas and partitas for solo violin, and other Baroque works by Merula and Couperin. Furthermore, they incorporate traditional and contemporary Nordic tunes into their repertoire.
