Explore the repertoire for piano quartet with the star violist, Nobuko Imai, and her colleagues, including young cellist, Ella van Poucke.

An unusual formation, in comparison with the string quartet or piano trio, the piano quartet repertoire nonetheless contains some genuine gems. Beethoven's E-flat major quartet, composed at the tender age of 15, owes much to Mozart, but already shows signs of the experiments and developments to come. Brahms' quartet is a more mature work - and a musical sonnet to Clara Schumann, Brahms' lifelong friend and unrequited love. Often called the 'Werther' Quartet, the sorrows of Goethe's hero were surely understood by the lovelorn, but stalwart, composer.
