Michele Marco Rossi, Orchestra Calamani: The Ancient and the New at Bologna Festival

About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear classical music at Bologna's atmospheric Oratorio di San Filippo Neri.

Michele Marco Rossi, one of the most inventive and original Italian cellists, with the complicity of the young and well‐prepared Calamani Orchestra, draws up a program in which today's music dialogues with the music of the past: two of the admittedly 'nocturnal' pages by Salvatore Sciarrino, Linee d'aria and Gesualdo senza parole alternate with two instrumental works from the early eighteenth century in Italy in which the cello plays the part of the soloist. The starting point is the music of Sciarrino, a composer who has always been in vital contact with the masters of the past — Gesualdo, Bach, Scarlatti, Mozart — following the thread of transcription or reinvention.
