Martinů Voices & Ceremony of Carols at Church of St. Simon and St. Jude
Prague, Church of St. Simon and Jude (Kostel sv. Šimona a Judy) — Main concert hall
About the Event
The artistic goal of the vocal ensemble Martinů Voices is the top interpretation of chamber choral music of the 19th — 21st centuries. Their latest recording does not deviate from this dramaturgical line. The ensemble will draw from the album, which has met with an extraordinary response from the professional public, this evening. Britten's exceptionally fragile, musically lucid songs from the Christmas cycle Ceremony of Carols, which are among the composer's most performed compositions, will be paired with music by the Czech composer, Britten's contemporary, Jan Novák. Both composers use a similarly simple, emotionally rich musical language, and both draw inspiration from the traditional music of their homelands.
Program
- Gregorio Allegri – Miserere mei, Deus
- Jan Novák – Canti natalizi, Adeste fideles
- Benjamin Britten – A Ceremony of Carols op. 28
