Marinka: Komische Oper Berlin

About the Event

Experience Emmerich Kálmán's long lost composition, in which he did not just break fresh ground musically but also rewrote history.

The tragical double‐suicide of Austrian heir Rudolf and his young lover, Marinka, seems hardly the stuff for an operetta. Unless, of course, the tragedy is reversed to create a love story with a happy ending.

Kálmán composed 'Marinka' during his exile in America, expressing the longing for his homeland Austro‐Hungary in songs such as 'Only one touch of Vienna' and 'Old Man Danube'. Kálmán's original orchestration is lost, so it will now appear 70 years after its premier in a new orchestration.
