Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Yutaka Sado

About the Event

Explore the beauty of classical music at Konzerthaus Berlin, where masterworks by Adams, Copland and Dvorak come to life in this incredible performance.

Mao Zedong and his lover Jiang Quing doing the foxtrot: John Adams couldn't get this image out of his head while working on his opera 'Nixon in China. So he captured it in an orchestral piece, with which the debut of Japanese conductor Yutaka Sado on the podium of the Konzerthausorchester begins. Organist Iveta Apkalna, soloist in Aaron Copland's 'jazzy, modern symphony for organ and orchestra' from 1924, has been with us for three seasons as 'Organist in Residence'.

A real classical hit is Antonín Dvořák's Ninth, nicknamed 'From the New World,' whose slow movement is introduced so heartrendingly by the English horn. The Bohemian composer wrote it in the course of an extended stay in the United States. Already the premiere in 1893 at Carnegie Hall brought the work huge success, which never ceased.
