Hector Berlioz was completely ignored by the actress of his heart. He musically got the heartbreak off his chest with the 'Symphonie fantastique' to great effect and, along the way, invented program music: one accompanies the composer's alter ego through various scenes from ball to place of execution and witches' sabbath, which reflect his mental states.
