Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Andris Poga
Berlin, Konzerthaus Berlin — Großer Saal
About the Event
Explore the beauty of classical music at Konzerthaus Berlin, where masterworks by Shostakovich and Strauss come to life in this incredible performance.
For the debut of Latvian conductor Andris Poga with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Richard Strauss' 'Ein Heldenleben' is on the program. Those who would rather not ponder the stages of a warrior's life set to music, or even establish an autobiographical connection with Mr. Strauss's life, can instead concentrate fully on what the musicians in the huge orchestra are musically up to. Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrandez also has to show a bit of heroism, playing Dmitri Shostakovich's elegiac Second Cello Concerto from 1966 as soloist beforehand. Like all his works for this instrument, he wrote it for a highly demanding friend, the cellist of the century 'Slava' Rostopovich.
- Shostakovich, Dmitri Dmitriyevich – Konzert für Violoncello und Orchester Nr. 2 g‐Moll op. 126
- Strauss, Richard – 'Ein Heldenleben' Tondichtung op. 40
