As a performance venue for young jazz, the Zentralwerk once again presents two of the most acclaimed discoveries of its genre during the 2023 Festival season. The pianist Johanna Summer, praised by the »Süddeutsche Zeitung« as »a small sensation«, made a splash with her debut album, »Schumann Kaleidoskop«. And Jakob Manz, an exceptional saxophone player who won the Jazz Prize of the State of Baden‐Württemberg in 2022, keeps going from strength to strength. As a duo, both musicians enter into an intimate and colourful dialogue. The concert features their own compositions, standards and recent jazz classics – throughout, Summer and Manz create a multi‐layered sound, plumbing all its nuances and sweeping listeners away, whether with lyrically tender or powerfully energetic sounds.
