Il Tamerlano – Vivaldi: Palau de la Música Catalana

About the Event

Experience classical music like never before in this astonishing performance of masterworks by Vivaldi at Barcelona's remarkable Palau de la Música Catalana.

An unusual Vivaldi for Catalan music programs has arrived at the Palau Opera. Il Tamerlano, also known as Bajazet, is the result of a mixture of pieces by Giacomelli, Hassey, Riccardo Broschi and Farinelli, as well as arias and instrumental music by Vivaldi, brought together under a single libretto by Agostino Piovene. Pasticcio, as this method of composition is called, was very common in the 18th century.
This Vivaldi piece is a special feature in Catalan music programs and will be performed at the Palau Opera by internationally renowned soloists, including Marina de Lisa, Bruno Taddia and Filippo Mineccia, who have already proven themselves in previous productions at the Palau. The Accademia Bizantina, conducted by Ottavio Dantone, completes the trio of leading Baroque ensembles in the Palau Opera concert series this season.
Live presentation of the album Il Tamerlano (Naïve, 2020), already very well received and highly praised by critics.
'The vocal department is magnificent […] and it deserves full marks […] Accademia Bizantina as always: unassailable,' said Scherzo.
'Accademia Bizantina plays crisply in the Sinfonia, and Ottavio Dantone provides versatile textures in the various arias. […] Accademia Bizantina's forceful interpretation is a convincing plea for the merits of patchwork opera,' according to Gramophone.
