Homage to Maria Callas at Venice's Palazzo Ca' Sagredo

About the Event

Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Venice's breathtaking Palazzo Ca' Sagredo for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of classical music.

In the centenary celebrations of Maria Callas, the Venice Opera pays homage to this great artist in the most significant places that marked her presence in Venice.
It was here that Callas interpreted Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, on the occasion of the centenary of the first performance at La Fenice Theatre.
The Homage to Callas proposed by the Venice Opera cast will take place at Ca' Sagredo, one of the most significant architectural expressions of the 'City of Beauty' par excellence.

The concert will be held in the marvellous Sala della Musica, surrounded by the majestic walls frescoed by Gaspare Diziani and Giambattista Tiepolo.

The program includes the performance of the main arias from La Traviata, followed by some of the most famous Puccini roles performed by Callas. The two sopranos and the tenor will be accompanied throughout the evening by the ensemble Venice Opera Concert. The first part will last approximately 45 minutes and will allow the audience to listen to Traviata Highlights. In the second part, arias from Tosca, Bohème, Gianni Schicchi will be performed, representing some of Callas's preferred roles.

During the intermission all present will be able to enter the 'Portego' hall and admire the view of the Grand Canal, while tasting tasting the Venetian sweet 'Cadeu' dedicated to Maria Callas.
