Gergiev and Concertgebouw Orchestra: Rachmaninov and Scriabin
About the Event
Allow yourself to be overwhelmed by the rhapsodic passions of Russian music. Valery Gergiev returns as guest conductor, bringing with him a rising star of the piano pantheon, the Uzbek pianist, Behzod Abduraimov.
Rachmaninov's Third Piano Concerto is notoriously difficult, but a fitting stage to display the young Abduraimov's astonishing technical skill and interpretive flair. Scriabin's Third Symphony, known as 'Le Poème Divin' — the Divine Poem — provides a gentler, but no less passionate, contrast to the Rachmaninov's rapturous lyricism.
