Medieval
The Middle Ages were a time of extraordinary musical discovery and development. Early methods of notation were created, adapted, and codified. Soon, it was possible to write down the highly complex polyphonic music that grew out of improvisation. From soberly melodic Gregorian chant to artfully interwoven polyphony, Medieval music can be as moving and communicative as works written almost a thousand years later.
