Gautier Capuçon & the Prague Symphony Orchestra

About the Event

Part of the renowned Festival Ljubljana 2009, this concert presents the rising cello star Gautier Capuçon and the Prague Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jiří Kout.

The Prague Symphony Orchestra, which in 2009 celebrates its 75th year, was founded as an orchestra with a broad field of activity, embracing the performance of film, opera and symphonic music, and it once even bore the name FOK (Film‐Opera‐Koncert). The orchestra will present an entirely Czech programme, led by a conductor who devotes special attention to the music of Czech composers. Since the 2006/2007 season, Jiří Kout has been the chief conductor and musical director of the Prague Symphony Orchestra. On the international stage he is an acknowledged opera conductor, with a repertoire that features works by one of the most important opera composers of the early 20th century, Leoš Janaček.

Jiří Kout has selected Janaček’s Overture to Katia Kabanova to open the orchestra’s concert at the Ljubljana Festival. The musical evening will continue with the romantic music of Dvořak, with his outstanding symphony ‘From the New World’ and his Cello Concerto in B minor. One of the most popular concertos for solo cello, the Concerto in B minor will feature the 28‐year‐old Gautier Capuçon, who performs on an instrument from the first half of the 18th century.

This promises to be a vibrant concert played by highly skilled artists at the Festival Ljubljana 2009.
