About the Event

The aged doctor Faust, having only experienced sciences and metaphysics, receives an enticing proposal from the Devil's emissary Mephistopheles: youth in the form of Marguerite in exchange for his soul in the afterlife.

Presented in Paris in 1859 as a comic opera, this adaptation of Goethe's tragedy quickly became a cornerstone of the repertoire and a pillar of popular culture, being the first French opera broadcast in full and engraved on LP.

Faust returns to its original form at the Opéra‐Comique with the cooperation of the Opéra de Lille and the Palazzetto Bru Zane, revealing lesser‐known chapters of this romantic and fantastical masterpiece. Louis Langrée, Denis Podalydès, and their team lead a cast headed by Julien Dran.

Opera in five acts with libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, Faust premiered on March 19, 1859 at the Théâtre Lyrique.
