Dresdner Kreuzchor & Cappella Sagittariana at Kreuzkirche Dresden

About the Event

Under the baton of its new Cantor Martin Lehmann and accompanied by the Cappella Sagittariana Dresden, one of the leading early‐music ensembles, Dresden’s Kreuzchor interprets works by Johann Hermann Schein and Johann Sebastian Bach, both former Cantors of St. Thomas in Leipzig, juxtaposing them with compositions by Heinrich Schütz, the former Dresden Court Kapellmeister. The baroque colours and sumptuous sound of these compositions is emphasized by clearly positioning different choral groups and soloists throughout the space and using historical instruments which would have been familiar at the time. These motets by old masters will be combined with contemporary works from Scandinavia, the Baltics and Germany by composers such as Sven‐David Sandström, Arvo Pärt, Knut Nystedt, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, Siegfried Strohbach and others.
