Crea Dance by María Rovira

About the Event

The universal spirituality of the Requiem.

Mozart's Requiem is the most popular and influential piece of church music in history. Choreographed by Maria Rovira (Mataró, 1963), it releases the astonishing expression of the spiritual and religious culture of the contemporary world in a concentrate of universal spirituality. The dances created by the Egyptians, Africans, Arabs and indigenous peoples are conveyed in a basic choreographic style that is part of the development of contemporary dance in Catalonia, Spain.

12 dancers, acting as a unit, and 12 soloists perform a choral and sombre work reminiscent of the intense melancholy of Mozart's Requiem. Maria Rovira, who studied contemporary dance at the Paris Conservatoire, worked for many years with the Cuban National Ballet and was invited as a choreographer to the USA, Canada and Colombia. She immerses us in a hypnotic yet powerful work full of allegories about life, death and injustice.

A work that globalises our private and personal relationship with religion, a relationship that stems from the special relationship Mozart created with God when he composed his Requiem Mass…
