The German city of Weimar is located in the federal state of Thuringia (Thüringen). Classical Weimar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the period is famous for the writers Goethe and Schiller and the musician Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach who was born in Weimar. The city was also where the artistic movement of Bauhaus originated under Walter Gropius and the artists Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
